Sample IELTS writing task 2 academic Causes & Effects

Question

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

The young can get easily influenced by the internet. What could be the reasons for this? What can be done to exercise more control over their use of the internet?

Model Answer

Developing internet awareness among our youngsters is a crucial area that deserves more attention. The internet plays a profound way of shaping the behavior of people and exercises an influential role in the way they think. Several factors contribute to the influence the internet has on young minds. For instance, advertising can often be directed at children and teenagers who are increasingly conscious of brands and their reputations.

Additionally, violent content over the media could also influence naïve minds who might develop an insensitivity to people’s needs or feelings based upon what they view as acceptable behavior as seen over the internet. Due to these reasons and more, it becomes imperative for greater control over the internet to curb unhealthy behavior. One approach to this is to make sure that parents play a greater role in helping their children handle internet influence by monitoring and controlling the type of content their child watches and talking about what they see regularly with them.

Another approach would be to suggest sites that your child could go into to encourage positive behaviors such as reading the news and other informative articles. Apart from this, introducing youngsters to a wider range of activities, apart from the internet, such as engaging in sports and interacting with real people could help towards their development. The youngster could be encouraged to join clubs of interest such as joining a band, participating in voluntary activities and even playing a sport they like to encourage real interactions with other people to develop their social skills, a key quality that is essential in today’s society.

Sample IELTS writing task 2 academic - Agree/Disagree

Question

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. "Prevention is better than cure."

Out of a country's health budget, a large proportion should be diverted from treatment to spending on health education and preventative measures.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Model Answer

Modern medicine has evolved along two lines: prevention and cure. In this world, many people are dying from various types of health-related problems due to the lack of appropriate health education and preventive actions. That is why, according to my perception, the government should spend a huge amount of money on the health budget for preventive measures.

To begin with, it is evident that, in most of the country's health education is hardly imparted among the people. When people are made aware of the health-related issues it naturally implies prevention of umpteen diseases which can be avoided with basic alterations in lifestyles. For example, in most developing countries, people are suffering from so many communicable diseases because they do not know about the disadvantages of having unhygienic food and water. Moreover, If the government can provide information about basic preventive steps that can be inculcated at the basic grassroots level then the chances of spread of various diseases are alleviated and hence this would improve the overall health of people. Also, another major reason is creating awareness would definitely consume fewer funds of the government and would have more positive impacts.

On the other hand, it should also be remembered that not all examples of modern disease are preventable or predictable, and it is critical to maintaining research into cures for all diseases. Hence a certain amount of health budget should be diverted in curing diseases as well. For example, life-taking diseases such as cancer cannot be prevented with basic measures and hence there should be funds allocated to the cure and research of such gruesome diseases.

To conclude, it can be said that, the government should spend a sufficient amount of money on treatment too, but a high proportion of the amount should be spent on health education and preventive measures so that the population of the country can live in a healthy environment with less price.

Sample IELTS writing task 2 academic Advantages & Disadvantages

Question

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

As countries develop, people tend to buy more and more cars. Do you think the advantages for the individual outweigh the disadvantages for the environment?

Model Answer

Due to the change in lifestyle, people are upgrading themselves from two-wheelers to automobiles. Some are of the opinion that it has more benefits and is making their life convenient. I also accord with this thought. To embark upon, there are umpteen factors why purchasing cars is beneficial.

Firstly, traveling to different places becomes easier when individuals have their own vehicles instead of utilizing the public transport. It helps in managing their time and is more comfortable. Another reason is that, in the current scenario, there are a plethora of fuel-efficient cars available which are economical when commuting on the daily basis, rather, spending money on other modes of transport. For example, the cab service providers such as Uber always surge their prices during peak hours which are generally office hours and users have to pay more than the standard amount.

However, owning a four-wheeler may provide myriad advantages, there are also multifarious harmful effects on our atmosphere. Currently, it can be observed that almost every household has at least one car and as a result, the traffic is elevating day by day, which is the main source of pollution. Also, the humans do not clean the smoke filters of their vehicles and emit the poisonous gases into the sky. For example, in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, the quality of air is deteriorating due to dangerous smoke transmitting from the vehicles.

To conclude, although there are some negative effects of cars, the positives outshine them. As, they are not only the cause of environmental problems, still, human beings can save natural resources by buying electric cars in place of the ones that run on fuels.

Sample IELTS writing task 2 academic - Cases & Solution

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Many people play sport when they are young, but then stop doing physical exercise when they become adults.

Why do so many adults stop doing physical exercise?

What can be done about this problem?

Model Answer

Sport is a great exercise in physical and mental terms. Nowadays, youngsters lose their interest in playing sports. This issue has lots of reasons although there are many steps to mitigate this effect. This essay will elaborate on why youngsters lose their interest and will recommend the solution to overcome the problem.

To embark on, there are manifold causes for not playing games. Today everyone is hard-working, and to manage the city’s lifestyle, people have a hectic schedule during the day. At night, they get tired and spend some time with their families and children. For example, a person who give 10 hours at a job, might not have the energy to play sports when he comes home. But if he spends an hour each week for whatever sport he like, would lessen the stress in his life, and gives you a fresh start every day.

However, many steps could be taken to eradicate this problem. The government can organize different types of games and activities for citizens. For example, every year in my city a marathon race is arranged, many people take part in it and win the trophy. Also, the government can arrange campaigns to encourage people to play sports or do other physical exercises. If people continue their interest in playing, they might not suffer from health issues.

All in all, Everyone says that a healthy body is a healthy mind. Although people are engaged in daily life, they should give enough time to playing what they like; as it gives them a healthy life.

Sample IELTS writing task 2 academic -Discuss Both The Opinion

Some people believe that school children should not be given homework by their teachers, whereas others argue that homework plays an important role in the education of children.

Discuss both of these views and give your own opinion.

Model Answer

It is true that homework is an essential part of education for school children. Many parents and teachers insist that students should be given some tasks that they should complete at home because it enables them to internalize the concepts they learned at school. However, others completely oppose this view and claim that homework puts students under pressure. Even though it brings some disadvantages, such activities are often considered to be advantageous due to various reasons.

The main benefit of homework is that it encourages independent learning and problem solving, as children are challenged to work through tasks alone and at their own pace. In doing so, students must apply the knowledge that they have learned in the classroom. This in turn develops their cognitive skills. Also, it will cultivate a regular study habit in them considerably. To make it clear, pupils are forced to learn lessons whatever they studied in their classroom every day and they never forget such things in the long run. Moreover, they can achieve a higher score or grade in their examinations For example, by doing mathematics exercises at home, students consolidate their understanding of the concepts taught by their teacher at school.

On the other hand, giving too much homework can be counterproductive. When children are not given additional work, they would have more free time and can inculcate sports in their daily routine. This can help them to improve their health and physical fitness and encourage all-round development. Additionally, most students spend a lot of time in the classroom. They are already tired by the time they reach home and lack the motivation to complete their homework. When children are forced to do homework, they are less likely to focus on what they are doing. This practice will not benefit them in any way.

To conclude, abolishing homework is not the solution. Instead of taking such drastic measures, in my opinion, teachers should just reduce the amount of homework they give.
